Upon completion of the requirements on the IPDP, an EIS is awarded a certificate declaring his/her status as an EIS professional. Hold a bachelor's or graduate degree in a field that is related to early childhood intervention, which includes psychology, social work, counseling, special education (without an emphasis on early childhood), and sociology, with nine semester course credit hours relevant to early childhood intervention and three semester course credit hours specific to early childhood development or early childhood special education. TAC also indicates that 40 clock hours of continuing education in early childhood development or early childhood special education completed within three years prior to employment with ECI may substitute for the three-hour semester course credit requirement in early childhood development or early childhood special education. The content of the three hours of coursework and the forty clock hours of continuing education must relate to the growth, development, and education of the young child and may include courses or training in:

(4) psychopathology--three semester hours;
(5) professional ethics--three semester hours;
(6) applied professional research--three semester hours;
and
(7) supervised clinical internship--12 months or nine semester hours

Additional requirements specific for schools? | The Texas Education Agency (TEA) no longer issues certificates in speech-language therapy, but individuals who hold a lifetime TEA certificate in speech and hearing therapy or speech-language therapy may practice in public schools without a license. 1. Master's degree 2. 400 hours supervised clinical practicum (on or after January 1, 2005) 3. Thirty-six weeks of full-time or equivalent part-time supervised professional experience 4. Passage of an examination (score 600) or a waiver is granted to applicants who hold ASHA's Certificate of Clinical Competence 5.
