An applicant for licensure as an audiologist shall provide evidence of holding a doctoral degree in audiology from an academic program approved by an accrediting agency approved by the Board and the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. An applicant must pass the Praxis Examination in Audiology as a requirement for licensure. An applicant must complete 1,260 hours of supervised professional experience. Each speech-language pathologist or audiologist shall have completed 20 clock hours of continuing education per license during each preceding biennial renewal period.

Licensure Require Specific Field or Clinical Work? The requirements for licensure stipulate that applicants who hold an M.A./M.S. degree or its equivalent from an accredited academic institution, have completed a practicum in the appropriate specialty consisting of a minimum of 375 hours (of which 250 supervised clock hours of the practicum shall be obtained at the graduate level in the area in which licensing is sought; practicum experience shall include a minimum of 50 clock hours in at least two distinctly different environments), have completed a Year of Supervised Professional Experience, and have passed an examination approved by the Licensure Board. The Law States, educators must maintain their education certificates as active by earning 6 collegiate or 6 PDE approved in-service credits or 180 continuing education hours or any combination of the above every 5 years. The five-year period began July 1, 2000. For those individuals who were issued their certificates in August 2000 and thereafter, the five-year period begins with the effective date of issuance of the initial certificate.

Additional requirements specific for schools? The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national professional organization for speech-language pathologists and audiologists. It grants the “Certificate of Clinical Competence” to those individuals who have satisfied stringent requirements in education and training within these fields.
Individuals who hold the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence must have completed at least the M.A. or M.S. degree from an approved training institution, have satisfied the training requirements (including at least 375 hours of supervised clinical practicum in at least two different sites, as well as an internship program [the Clinical Fellowship Year {CFY}] during which their work has been supervised), and have passed the NTSB examination in the field of specialty

Alternative Route Provisional or temporary Pennsylvania has two main routes to alternative certification. The first is the popular Pennsylvania Teacher Intern Certification Program, which requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the area in which you want to be certified, as well as passing qualifying exams. Candidates take a full-time professional teaching position while completing an induction program with additional academic and testing requirements. The second option is to earn a Passport to Teaching license issued by the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence. Would-be teachers can qualify for a Pennsylvania Instructional I certificate in elementary education as well as in several areas of secondary education. For people who want to work in Philadelphia’s highest-need schools, the Philadelphia Teaching Fellows program places experienced professionals and recent college graduates in classrooms while they earn their credentials.

  1. Physical and biological sciences shall include content from the areas of anatomy and physiology, chemistry, microbiology, physics, and nutrition, which may be integrated, combined, or presented as separate courses; the scientific facts and principles drawn from these areas serve as a basis for planning and implementing nursing care. When the basic sciences are presented as distinct academic courses - that is, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology - there shall be a related laboratory experience. A related laboratory experience is defined as an assigned period of time during which students participate in the testing of scientific principles.
  2. Selected courses shall be included in the humanities and social and behavioral sciences that support the philosophy, purposes, educational concepts, and terminal objectives of the program.
  3. The curriculum shall provide concurrent theory and clinical experience in the care of men, women, and children in age groups and with the health problems characteristic of each group. Experiences shall be provided which include preventive aspects of nursing care during acute and chronic illness and rehabilitative care. Opportunities shall be provided for the student to participate in case findings, health teaching, and health counseling for patients and their families. Evening and night assignments are considered part of the curriculum only in terms of the objectives to be achieved and if faculty supervision is provided.
  4. Content related to history, trends, and professional responsibilities of nursing may be integrated, combined, or taught as separate courses.
