Additional requirements specific for schools? | Must receive an Exceptional Pupils License with an Endorsement in Audiological Services (K-12) To receive an endorsement to provide a program of audiological services, a person must: 1. Hold a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence as an audiologist issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); or 2. Hold a master's degree in audiology from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association; or 3. Hold a master's degree in any subject and have completed the following: A. At least 300 hours of supervised clinical experience in audiology or speech pathology B. At least 60-semester credits in courses related to the normal development, function, and use of speech and language or hearing, including, but not limited to, the management of disorders of speech or hearing and the legal, professional, and ethical practices of audiology or speech pathology. At least 24 credits, not including credits earned for a thesis or dissertation must have been earned in courses directly relating to audiology or speech pathology. |

Licensure Specific Curriculum/Coursework | Applicants can qualify in three ways (see below). Only the third option requires specific coursework by the state. To qualify for the endorsement for hearing impairments, a person must: 1. Hold a certificate from the Council on Education of the Deaf; OR 2. Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in the area of hearing impairments and have completed 8-semester credits of student teaching, equivalent field experience, or 1 year of verifiable teaching experience in special education; OR 3. Hold a bachelor's or master's degree; and A. Have completed 8 semester hours of student teaching of pupils who have hearing impairments, equivalent field experience with such pupils or 1 year of verifiable teaching experience with such pupils; and B. Have completed 18-semester credits of course work from at least six of the following areas: I. Characteristics of pupils who have hearing impairments II. Methods of communication for pupils who have hearing impairments III. Anatomy and physiology of the ear and the mechanisms of speech IV. Audiology V. Hearing aids and auditory training VI. Development of the curriculum and methods of teaching pupils who have hearing impairments VII. Parental involvement in programs for pupils who have disabilities VIII. Linguistics, speech, and language for pupils who have hearing impairments IX. Introduction to special education or education of pupils who have disabilities; OR X. Education or planning for the transition of pupils who have disabilities from their current placement to placement in additional educational programs, employment, and living independently as an adult. |

Licensure Require Specific Field or Clinical Work? | At least 3,000 hours of experience in an approved internship, including 300 hours under the direct supervision of a board-approved Supervisor. The program to provide the experience must be 1. Approved by the Board before the applicant begins the program (and) 2. Completed within a maximum of 6 years after the Board approves the program (and) 3. Structured in such a way that an intern's client contact hours do not exceed 20 hours per week to be applied toward internship hours. The composition of these required hours must meet Board approval. The registered Intern must perform the following activities in order to fulfill the requirements: 1. A minimum of 1500 direct client contact hours, performed after the applicant has become a Registered Intern. 2. 300 hours of supervision, including a minimum of 160 provided by an Approved supervisor, and a minimum of 40 hours provided by a secondary supervisor(s). The remaining required hours may be met in the same way, up to the required minimum total hours; or the following activities may be submitted for consideration by the Board as the fulfillment of the requirements: 1. A maximum of 300 hours as a group facilitator. 2. A maximum of 150 hours of personal therapy, documented by a licensed mental health therapist. 3. A maximum of 200 hours of documented teaching by the intern in such formats as parent education, family education, workshops, or similar teaching activities, to be agreed upon by the Primary Supervisor. 4. A maximum of 50 hours, documented, in additional training, such as university graduate work, a pre-approved workshop, or other training/education activities agreed upon by the Primary Supervisor. 5. Licensure Require Specific Field or Clinical Work? | Applicant must have completed 1) practicum and 2) a minimum of 1000 hour internship in school psychology. Practicum: Could not find specific hour requirements for the practicum. The statute states: To receive credit for completing a practicum, an applicant seeking an endorsement to serve as a school psychologist must be able to show that the practicum: 1. Was taken concurrently with or after his or her last required areas of study in the applicable area of training; and 2. Was supervised by a representative of the educational institution which sponsored the practicum working with a person who holds an endorsement as a school psychologist and is employed by a school district. Internship: The intern's period of service must be started concurrently with or after the last required training in the program of school psychology provided by the educational institution. Additional requirements specific for schools? | Must obtain an Exceptional Pupils License with an Endorsement for Speech and Language Impairments (Ages 3-21). To qualify for the endorsement for speech and language Impairments, a person must: 1. Hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or an equivalent license from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech Pathology, OR 2. Hold a license or certificate, issued by another state, with an endorsement to teach speech and language impairments; OR 3. Hold a Bachelor's or master's degree in the area of speech and language impairments and have completed 8-semester credits of student teaching, a clinical practicum, equivalent field experience OR 1 year of verifiable teaching experience with such pupils; OR 4. Hold a Bachelor's or master's degree; AND A. Have completed 8-semester credits of student teaching, a clinical practicum, equivalent field experience, or 1 year of verifiable teaching experience with such pupils; AND B. Have completed 28-semester credits of course work to include each of the following areas: I. Audiology II. Methods for the assessment and treatment of the disorders of articulation, fluency, voice, and language III. Development of normal speech and language IV. Science of speech and voice V. Phonetics VI. Introduction to special education or the education of pupils who have disabilities VII. Parental involvement in programs for pupils who have disabilities. |

Licensure Specific Curriculum/Coursework | There are 2 ways for an applicant to qualify for the endorsement: The first requires a degree in the area of visual impairments. If a person does not have that then the second option does require specific coursework (see below). To qualify for the endorsement for visual impairments, a person must: 1. Hold a Bachelor's or master's degree in the area of visual impairments and have completed 8-semester credits of student teaching, equivalent field experience, or 1 year of verifiable teaching experience with such pupils; 2. Hold a Bachelor's or master's degree AND: A. Have completed 8 semester hours of student teaching of pupils who have visual impairments, equivalent field experience with such pupils, or 1 year of verifiable teaching experience with such pupils; AND B. Have completed 18-semester credits of course work in any of the following areas: I. Introduction to special education or the education of pupils who have disabilities II. Development of the curriculum and methods for assessing and teaching pupils who are blind or have visual impairments III. Beginning braille IV. Advanced braille V. Parental involvement in programs for pupils who have disabilities VI. Rehabilitative services, education, or planning for the transition of pupils who have disabilities from their current placement to placement in additional educational programs, employment, and living independently as an adult VII. Psychological and social aspects of blindness VIII. Physiological aspects of blindness; OR IX. Orientation and mobility or low vision Note: The requirement for course work in two of these areas may be satisfied by completing one course, of at least 3-semester credits that encompass both subject matters. | |
